Beautiful, rot and insect resistant, perfect for a hobby greenhouse

Western Red Cedar

(Thuja Plicata) is renowned for its natural beauty and outstanding physical properties that make it one of the world’s most unique softwood species. This exceptionally beautiful wood has natural coloring in mellow ambers, reddish cinnamons and rich sienna browns.

Natural Durability

Western Red Cedar is one of the few wood species that are naturally at home in the outdoors. It is classified as a durable wood by the building codes.

Thermal Insulating Properties

Western Red Cedar is an excellent thermal insulator. The low density and presence of air spaces make it the best insulator of any available softwood. Its thermal conductivity factor K is 0.74 BTU in / ft2 h F and it’s R-value is 1.35 per inch of thickness. These exceptional thermal insulating properties protect a building from the extremes of heat and cold.

Flame Spread and Smoke Development Ratings

Western Red Cedar has flame spread and smoke development classifications that are superior to the minimums set by the building codes. These ratings permits cedar to be used in many interior applications without treatment.

Termite Resistance

The death rate of termites consuming Western Red Cedar varies with fiber source and the species of termites from 100% in several days to 40% in several weeks. Termites prefer food sources other than Western Red Cedar.

Workability

Western Red Cedar has a fine, straight grain and uniform texture that make it easy to cut, saw and nail with common tools.

FAQ

How long will the Cedar gazebo last in general?

With very little maintenance, a Cedar gazebo owner can expect it to last many years. Its used world-wide for the construction of houses. The frame should last more than 25 years. Please read our warranty.

What support is available if I need help installing the Cedar hut?

Customer support is just a phone call away that can quickly answer any concerns.

How waterproof are Cedar gazebos?

All Cedar gazebos if installed correctly are guaranteed 95% waterproof.

How long does it take to install a Cedar hut?

Generally it takes 1-2 days weather permitting for installation. Times may vary depending on size of the cedar hut. We have a detailed cedar hut instruction manual available for the DIY market.

What about ventilation and insulation?

One of the great attractions of Cedar huts is that it is thermally efficient – warm in winter and cool in summer. Unlike conventional roofing systems that trap heat and moisture vapor in attics, cedar huts require no attic ventilation. Cedar huts can reduce the inside temperature, creating a pleasant environment for your family on a hot summer day.

Normally within 1-3 weeks depending on the season. DIY Cedar Hut Kits are in stock for fast delivery.

Will the roof change color over time?

The cedar we use is a natural product and will change color when exposed to the sun and rain. This is a natural occurrence.

What timber do you use for the construction of the Cedar Hut?

We use treated Australian timber to Australian building regulations and standards. The timber we use is the same timber that is used Australia wide to build pergolas and decks. All cedar huts are made in a specialist factory to exact requirements.

Do I need council approval?

Depending on the size of the hut, you may need council approval. Please call your council if unsure.
