Introduction: Bali Huts

Bali Huts

The great benefit of owning a thatched Bali hut is that the insolating properties of the thatch reduce the temperatures by up to 10 degrees Celsius creating a cool atmosphere for you and you family to enjoy.

Bali huts installed by Exotic Thatch are 100% waterproof and the best part is that no maintenance is required. more >>>

Roof Pitch

The pitch of the roof is a big factor in determining the longevity of the roof. Usually, a steeper roof (higher pitch) thatch roof will last longer due to its better drainage capabilities. For this reason, we use a roof pitch of 40 degrees (minimum) therefore extending the life of the thatch. This also dramatically reduces damage done by strong winds.

Why Bali Huts?

• Natural eco-friendly roof

We use premuim grade thatch on all our gazebos and huts  It is durable, has a long life span, and offers natural aesthetic beauty. Bali Hut Frequently Asked Questions

How long will the Balinese Thatch Roof/ Bali Hut last?
A: With very little maintenance, a thatch roof owner can have a roof last for 15 years and more. Various climates do affect the life span of a thatch roof.

Bali Huts / Roof 100% waterproof?
All Bali Huts / Roofs installed by Exotic Thatch will be 100% waterproof guaranteed. We use the correct thatching density and a roof pitch of 40 degrees.

What is the cost for a Bali hut?
The cost of a roof / hut depends on the size of the roof, thickness of the posts etc. Please contact us for a price estimate.

Can Balinese thatch be used on an existing structure?
Yes, but a minimum pitch of 30 degrees is required for a thatched roof to ensure maximum water run-off. The pitch of an existing structure may be ‘built up’ to achieve the proper angle.

How long does it take to install a Bali Hut?
Depending of the size of the roof / hut but normally it takes 1 to 2 days in good working conditions.

Are products free from pests?
Yes, Australian quarantine requires that all thatch must be treated as a condition of entry to Australia and therefore the product is free from pests.

What about ventilation and insulation?
One of the great attractions of thatch is that is extremely thermally efficient – warm in winter and cool in summer. Unlike conventional roofing systems that trap heat and moisture vapor in attics, thatched roofs require no attic ventilation. Bali Huts / Roof can reduce the inside temperature up to 10 degrees Celsius creating a pleasant place for your family on a hot summer day.

Are there other benefits of a thatched roof?
"From a conservation point of view thatch is less demanding on the land as the raw materials do not require quarrying or mining. Thatch is also very effective in commercial settings such as restaurants, hotels, pubs, and retail shops.

How is the ridge of the Bali hut / roof protected?
Utilizing terracotta tiles from Indonesia. Bali Huts - Ouside View

What is the difference between the Bali Huts and African gazebos materials?
Balinese thatch originates from Indonesia and has a more tropical look, compared to the African Cape Reed that has a neater, clean cut look.

How soon can you install the Bali Hut?
Normally within 2-3 weeks depending on the season.

Will the hut / roof change color over time?
The thatch we use is a natural product and will change color when exposed to the sun / rain.

What timber do you use for the construction of the bali huts /roofs

We use Australian treated timber to Australian Building regulations and standards.  The timber we use is the same timber that is used Australia wide to build pergolas and decks. We DO NOT USE coconut because it will not last in Australia. Bali Huts - Inside View
